"We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors,we borrow it from our children"
I went through this quote before writing this article. It took two minutes to visualize these words. How meaningful and deep these words are which tells devastating story of earth. The speed at which the world is moving in the blind race of advancement and development will tread down the originality of Earth very soon.
Gradually increasing Global warming is the theoretical indication of climate change. We have excavated earth for natural resources like never before. Green house gas emission is at its peak and in most of the cases its human induced. There is no need to tell ruinous effect of global warming on our life. Delhi is suffering from the deteriorated air quality. Bangalore which was famous for its weather has now recorded extreme temperature this year. Though explicit interrelation between climate change and geographical wind patterns can not be justified but it can not be denied that climate change is a factor behind increasing influence of El-Nino which has badly affected Indian Monsoon.
There is something about earth which is out of human control. Exogenic processes are controllable but not Endogenic. India has been continuously observing earthquakes in its northern region. Delhi NCR,Haryana region are facing earthquakes every 2-3 months. Nepal and Myanmar Earthquakes are worth mentioning. This region is not tectonically stable. Indian plate is moving towards north east 1cm every year which causes earthquakes. Construction of dams and mining further increase the problem.
It is the time when importance of earth and its attributes needs to be realized locally and globally. It might be difficult for governments to find a way of sustainable development. It might also create paradoxical catch-22 situation when environment and development is equally dependent on each other. Intuition of self responsibility is required rather than commemorating 22 April every year.
Anyways, Happy Earth Day
